SNAP Food Benefits

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Food Stamps) helps feed families. This is where clients in Texas can go to determine whether they are eligible for SNAP Food Benefits and find information on how to apply.

SNAP-Ed is the education side of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and is dedicated to providing clients with health and wellness education and resources.

AthleteInMe.com is a free consumer resource providing evidence-based information on exercise and wellness. Fitness and wellness counceling is provided by certified trainers for a fee.


Eat Smart. Play Hard.

The Eat Smart. Play Hard.™ Campaign was launched by USDA's Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) to encourage and teach children, parents, and caregivers to eat healthy and be physically active every day. Eat Smart. Play Hard.™ offers resources and tools to convey and reinforce healthy eating and lifestyle behaviors that are consistent with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the MyPyramid Food Guidance System.


Young Leaders for Healthy Change

Young Leaders for Healthy Change is a unique, free health promotion program through ACTIVE Life that empowers high school students to become leaders in driving the movement for healthy change.Together, members will work in teams of at least four high school students and one adult "Advocate" to engage in 12 weeks of health challenges that will inspire them to try new activities and participate in a variety of fun service and leadership experiences. Members continuously build their team consisting of friends, family, classmates or other role models and exceptional students can earn scholarships for higher education.


Junior Health Educator

The Junior Health Educator training and certificate program was co-created by ACTIVE Life and the Coastal Area Health Education Center and is offered to anybody 18 years or under. This simple and easy-to-complete free, online training was modeled after the formal, adult Community Health Worker program and has been modified to ultimately equip youth with the tools, skills, and knowledge needed to become grass roots advocates for health among their peers and in their community. Individuals can take it at their own pace or classes or groups can do it together.



WIC Works Resource System

The WIC Works Resource System provides nutrition service tools for health and nutrition professionals.



Team Nutrition

Team Nutrition is an initiative of the USDA Food and Nutrition Service to support the Child Nutrition Programs through training and technical assistance for foodservice, nutrition education for children and their caregivers, and school and community support for healthy eating and physical activity.

The Stand Up (more) & Eat (better) web site by the Cooper Institute promotes "calorie literacy" through articles, tools, and blogs, and interactive tools.


Conserve Texas Water

Texas is experiencing drought conditions. Find ways to do your part to conserve water and save money, too. The site provides a list of ten easy water conservation tips.


Life's Better Outside

The Texas Parks and Wildlife helps you find ways you and your kids can enjoy nature together. An Outdoor Activity Guide and Kid’s pages are great features of this web site.

Nutrition Education For Older Adults

Eat Smart, Live Strong: Nutrition Education for Older Adults is designed to improve fruit and vegetable consumption and physical activity among 60- to 74-year-olds participating in or eligible for FNS nutrition assistance programs.
